So, last time I needed a form 1, I got fingerprinted at my local PD.  But, is that needed?  Can I put my fingerprints on an FBI card and send it in if all done in my home, or do I need an official to sign it?

You absolutely can order fingerprint cards for free from ATF and print yourself.

I have digitized mine and my wifes and everytime I submit a form 1 I just print off a copy, date it, and mail it off.

BigWaylon put some instructions into the Work In Progress: new F1/F4 guide for 41F submissions thread.

https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/Work_In_Progress__new_F1_F4_guide_for_41F_submissions/17-465636/?page=1#i4612894

On page 5 of that thread grn_zx6r posted on how to set up scanning and printing your fingerprint cards, and on page 7 is an update to the process by drfroglegs.

Ive printed myself for my first two submissions within the past couple of months, and the first was approved in 22 days and the second in 15 days. I havent scanned my prints but plan on trying that when I get a chance.

There’s a block on the form you can sign...but there’s nowhere to print the person’s name, or department, or anything else. So they have no idea who does the prints.

I’ve rolled my own for the last several years. Helped others roll theirs. Even did it for a buddy’s 06 FFL application. No issues.

(But there’s also nothing in the regulations that says you have to use LEO...it simply says the person must be “properly equipped”)

Note: if you try to search online for the answer, realize there is a requirement when dealing with explosives, which is the link a lot of people run across when trying to get an answer

Interesting.  So, sort of pointless.  If nobody is certifying to the identity of the fingerprintee why do it?  Is not like sending in a urine sample fir a drug test and nobody watching you pee in the cup?

You really want to lie to the atf?

Dont think he is saying to lie about it. Just that hit is kinda pointless for them to take them when there is no certification that they are real.

Also, toj dont need to sign them at all. Just leave that part blank.

...because they’re not running the prints. They’re doing a NICS check with the info provided.

Or at least that’s the common theory.

This is the way to do it. When my Trust makes or buys something, it takes me five minutes to print 6 cards (three trustees). Signatures are already in the file, just date them and mail.

Thanks.  Very interesting.  And no, I was not advocating lying to a federal agency.  I just find it odd to ask fir fingerprints with some sort of third party validation or witness to the authenticity of the fingerprinting.

I would it hard to imagine the ATF does nothing with the cards.  They must run the image against database.

Ive never thought of sending in the wrong prints, would be so easy for them to cross check from 35 years ago when I was first fingerprinted for security work. Maybe Im
giving the FBI too much credit but Ive never been arrested so why not send my own in.

I skipped the hassle For my first rifle, as my prints are on file at ss, I ordered 2 fingerprint cards with mine scanned on it. 15 bux shipped

I’ll likely roll my own once I get a few more projects rolling

I’ve used both Lee and ExcelMark inkless pads (~$8 on Amazon) without any issues. Sirchie also makes good stuff.

I bought the ExcelMark pad from Amazon along with this fingerprint card holder, although its not really necessary. It does make it a little easier to get the prints in the right place, but you could accomplish that by making a frame out of some thin cardboard.

Using the instructions I mentioned above in post 3, I scanned mine in today and created a template so I can print them as needed. I even used Courier for the text to give it that old time typewriter look.

This was the second attempt at printing on the card, as I had the text a little to close to the left edge on my first try.

Looks good. But you can leave out the employer and address.

Just spitballing as I have my cards from ss printed off here but haven’t done a form 1 yet.

One thing I just noticed was, SS put “NFA transfer “ on the reason line

This won’t cause a problem with a form 1 will it?

Can’t imagine it being an issue.

But I also can’t imagine half the stuff the ATF decides to do...

My Lee inkless pad gave grey-ish impressions. I switched to a Sirchie pad after that. A bit more mess, but it gave me clear, black pirnts.

Question about the signature box

I have a set of reprints from SS and it’s blank their

I’m about to file another( one pending And first ) and I put “SS reprint “ in the box with my initials

Should i of signed my name?
Should I be concerned?
Don’t worry?
